Fenia as the Fenian Brotherhood and the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB), were fraternal organizations dedicated to the creation of an independent Irish republic in the 19 and early 20 th century. The name “Fenians” was first used by John O’Mahony members of the Irish nationalist organization which he founded in America in 1858 .
