Texas Stars vs. Toronto Marlies

Toronto Marlies are a hockey team in the American Hockey League, which serves as a farm team in Toronto Maple Leafs National Hockey League. They play in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Ricoh Coliseum. They are the only AHL team that currently plays in the same market as the NHL partnership (after moving the Philadelphia Phantoms after the 2008-09 season). AHL had a strong presence in Atlantic Canada in 1980 and 1990, and by 2004 St. John’s Maple Leafs were the only remaining team in the region. Although the group was very popular and had excellent attendance, a desire to parent Toronto Maple Leafs to reduce travel costs and tenants for its Ricoh Coliseum as a result of moving the team to Toronto for the 2005 season — 06. Previous Little League and junior companies in Toronto Marlies tickets, failed, and had the feeling that Toronto fans were only interested in Toronto Maple Leafs, but not at other levels of hockey. With Marlies as the leaves of Top affiliate, it was felt that this barrier can be overcome, however, attendance of barely 2,800  Toronto Marlies event first game of the playoffs back in April 2006 again raised the question of the viability of the franchise.Group is named after former Toronto Marlboroughs junior hockey team, but the abbreviated “Marlies name was chosen to avoid any potential association with the same name brand cigarettes.
