Monty Python’s Spamalot

Wednesday 14 October 2009 @ 2:42 am

Monty Python’s Spamalot is the musical comedy “lovingly plucked from 1975 movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. As in the movie, it’s extremely disrespectful parody of The Legend of King Arthur, but it differs from film in many respects, especially in its parodies of Broadway Theatre. Eric Idle , a member of Monty Python, wrote books and music lyrics and collaborated with John Du Prez on the music (except for “Knights of the Round Table” and “Brave Sir Robin”, composed Neil Innes for the original film). Original 2005 Broadway production, directed by Mike Nichols, won three awards “Tony”, including the award Tony for Best Musical of the 2004-2005 season and received 14 prize “Tony” nominations. An historian gives a brief overview of medieval England. idyllic Scandinavian village appears, with gaily dressed Finnish countryside singing and dance “Song Fisch Schlapping”. Monty Python’s Spamalot tickets historian returns, irritated and said, frolicking Finns that we are talking about England, not Finland. The villagers disperse and the pastoral woods immediately replace the dull, dark village with penitent monks in hooded robes, chanting prayers in Latin, and hitting myself in the face with a big Bible. King Arthur travels the land with his servant Patsy, who follows him around two coconuts shells struck together to make the sound of horses’ hoofs, as Arthur “rides” in front of him, trying to recruit Knights of the Round table to join him in Camelot ( “King Arthur’s Song”). Monty Python’s Spamalot event meets a couple of hours that are more interested in discussing whether two swallows could successfully carry a coconut than in listening to the king.Robin, a collector plague, and Lance, a big, handsome and unbelievably cruel man, meet as Lance attempts to get rid of painful Not Dead Fred ( “He Is Not Dead Yet”). They agree to become Knights of the Round Table together, Lance for the fighting, and Robin for singing and dancing.
