Miami City Ballet is an American ballet company, based in Miami, Florida in the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. It was created in 1986 by former New York City Ballet dancer Edward Villella and flourishes today as one of the most respected ballet companies in America.The main part of the company’s repertoire consists of works by George Balanchine, mentor Villella, although the company also performs works by Jerome Robbins, Twyla Tharp, Mark Morris, Trey McIntyre, and others, in addition to traditional full-length classics like “Giselle” and “Don Quixote. Miami City Ballet features an international ensemble of more than 55 dancers come from diverse places, including Cuba, Venezuela, China, Switzerland, France, Japan and Germany. The company is active repertoire of 88 ballets and performs more than 100 times a year. Miami City Ballet tickets serves as the resident ballet company in the largest theaters in Fort Lauderdale, Miami and West Palm Beach area, calling the four South Florida counties of his home. In addition, the company regularly tours domestically and internationally. North American appearances include the Kennedy Center, the 1996 Olympic Arts Festival, Jacob cushion dance, Orange County Performing Arts Center, and more recently in New York City Center, while theaters and festivals in Europe, Central America , South America, and Israel held company. The company celebrated its 20 th anniversary in 2006.The company operates Ballet Academy, Miami City Ballet event School, which opened in 1993. Schools, directed by Linda Villella, teaches students through a regime of Edward Villella, developed from his time as a dancer in New York City Ballet. About 375 students attend the Academy during the school year, and 200 taken at the annual Summer Intensive placement in school.
