The Lettermen

Lettermen are the American pop music vocal group. Trademark Lettermen close-harmony pop songs with light arrangements. They were popular mostly adult audiences during the 1960s.The group was formed in late 1950’s, Mike Barnett, Dick and Tony Stewart Butala. They listened to Jackie Barnett, chief comedy writer for TV show Jimmy Durante.

The Lettermen tickets landed parts for impersonation Rhythm Boys, vocal group, who traveled with Paul Whiteman and his orchestra in the late 1920’s, and gave Bing Crosby his early fame. “Novices in 1928″ Review of open February 28, 1958 at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas, Nevada.The review also starred Paul Whiteman, Buster Keaton, Rudy Vallée, Harry Richmond and Fifi D’Orsay.

The Lettermen events played to sell-out audiences and was held over for weeks. The review also played a six-week review at the Deauville Hotel in Miami Beach, Fla., with Butala is the only consistent Letterman. Barnett and Russell have been replaced by Gary Clark and Jerry Paul. In considering the composition of Butala got a job as a vocalist / bassist in the salons of the “Bill Norvas and upstarts” with Gary Clark. A few months later, Clarke left the band and was replaced by Jim Pike. Pike and Butala decided to leave the parvenu, resume Lettermen although they have not yet decided to use the name of the Lettermen. Pike provided the group where each member was an excellent soloist, as well as a competent performer group. Pike recommended third Letterman should Bob Engemann, singer, that Pike met when he attended Brigham Young University a few years ago. Both arrived in Los Angeles, California, and sang together in different combinations, while Engemann had to go to the National Guard within 6 months. At that time, Pike joined Bill Norvis and met Butala. This combination is first recorded in late 1959.
