A Bronx Tale

Bronx Tale is a one-man show written and performed by Chazz Palminteri. Palminteri is currently appearing in the 2008-2009 U.S. national tour of his recognition of the critical play after a successful run on Broadway. Play set in the Bronx section of New York in 1960. Bronx Tale tells of Calogero Anello, a boy from a working family who gets involved in the world of organized crime. Calogero’s father is a bus driver who tries to convince working-class values in the family son. As Calogero grows old, the aura and mystique of the Mafia, and the charms of Sonny, the local mob boss, who befriended Calogero (and ends becomes a father figure to him), it became difficult to resist. As Calogero comes of age, he must wrestle with the choice of the following values to his beloved father, or submission to the temptations of life of organized crime.

Bronx Tale tickets premiered in Los Angeles in 1990, achieving great success critical. Palminteri, then moved the show to New York, where he was critically and commercially successful, four-month Off-Broadway Run.

Oscar winning actor Robert De Niro attended the performance of A Bronx Tale in New York and offered to buy the film rights to the show. Palminteri agreed to sell the film rights to the condition that he be cast as the role of Sonny. Bronx Tale events film version premiered in 1993. The film version marked the directorial debut of De Niro and helped catapult the film Palminteri’s acting career.
