Suzanne Vega

Nadine Suzanne Vega (born July 11, 1959 Santa Monica, California) is an American composer and singer known for her highly literate lyrics and eclectic folk inspired music. Two songs of Vega (both from her second album Solitude Standing, 1987) reached the Top 10 listings of various international charts: “Onions” and “Tom’s Diner”. The latter was originally a cappella version on the album Vega, which was then remade in 1990 as a dance track production of songs of the British team dance production DNA. Suzanne Vega tickets “Tom’s Diner” was used as a reference track in the early trial of the compression system MP3, earning their honor to be the Mother of MP3. It was chosen because her vocal choir with a relatively small reverb was used as a model for the compression algorithm Karlheinz Brandenburg. Brandenburg heard “Tom’s Diner” on the radio plays a song. He was excited and at first convinced that it would be “almost impossible to compress this warm voice choir.”Tom’s Diner” is taking place in Tom’s restaurant on 112 Street and Broadway in New York. During this period Vega also wrote lyrics for two songs on Songs from Liquid Days composer Philip Glass.
